Annual Fund

The West Island College (WIC) Annual Fund Campaign provides the entire community, parents, alumni, and friends with an opportunity to participate in giving back to the School we all love.

Gifts to the Annual Fund supplement the funds not covered by tuition and government grants and contributes to providing extraordinary opportunities and experiences that spark curiosity and prepare our learners for a world beyond WIC. Over 600 students and teachers benefit each year from the Annual Fund. Every gift made to the Annual Fund is vital to WIC’s growth and success.

Every donation, regardless of size, makes a difference for your child.

Thank you for your support.

With gratitude,

Debra Klippenstein

2019/2020 Annual Fund Campaign Co-Chairs

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to co-chair the 2019/2020 Annual Fund Campaign for West Island College.  Most people will know us as the co-chairs of the WIC Legacy Gala Committee where we provide a wonderful night of FUN and FUNDRAISING, bringing the community together to support our school.

Together our families have six children who are currently attending or have graduated from WIC.  The experiences and opportunities WIC has provided to each of our children have allowed them to excel not only as students but has members of the global community.  From athletics to academics to the institute programs our children have been given diverse opportunities.  It is important to acknowledge our dedicated and talented faculty and staff that go above and beyond at WIC to help each child reach their potential.

Financial contributions and charitable gifts beyond tuition are essential in allowing WIC to provide extraordinary programming and spaces. Together with the help of Debra Klippenstein, Executive Director of Advancement and the Annual Fund Campaign Team we will endeavour to raise funds to make improvements to our classrooms and library and develop new spaces for student collaboration.  Funds will also be directed towards student health and wellness and enhancements to our music and band program. These initiatives will benefit not only our children but, all future students attending the college.

Every gift makes a difference, regardless of size.

Be Brave, Be Bold, Be Ready.

Help WIC continue to be a leader in education where students will own their future.

Leave Your Mark on the Arts

Drama. Music. Visual Arts.

West Island College (WIC) fine arts students are imaginative, creative and dramatic. Each arts discipline adds richness to the patchwork of process and learning that exists in our school. Through exposure to the arts, our students learn discipline, cooperation, innovation, confidence, motivation and self-expression necessary for self-esteem and success both in post-secondary studies and in life.

“Art is not a mirror held up to reality,
but a hammer with which to shape it.”

– Bertolt Brecht

Leave Your Mark on the Arts!

Show your support for drama, music and the visual arts by naming a seat or seats in our Performance Centre. Leave your mark in the WIC community and make a lasting impression on our students. Money raised will allow the College to provide the equipment, resources and talent required for our fine arts students to flourish.

Our Performance Centre is more than seats, lights and a stage. It’s:

  • a place of learning;
  • where we are inspired by students;
  • a space for students, alumni, family, friends and the larger community to come together to share an experience;
  • a forum to showcase our community’s many talents;
  • sharing the magic of the performing arts; and it’s
  • a site to let our imaginations soar.

For a tax-deductible contribution of $2500.00 we will inscribe your name(s) or the message of your choice on a plate on the armrest of a seat(s) in our beautiful 256 seat theatre.

Name a Seat:

  • With your own name as a statement of support of WIC and the arts;
  • In honour of friends and family or in appreciation of a teacher or other special person in your life;
  • With your name and graduation year or years you attended WIC. Or your years as a staff member or teacher;
  • In honour of a production or event in our theatre; or
  • With the name of your business or organization to demonstrate corporate support.

 Your Plate

  • Your name plate remains in place for the life of the seat.
  • Can include up to 50 characters, including punctuation and spaces.
  • Please note naming a seat does not reserve the use of the seat or the cost for ticketed performances.

“Theatre has changed my life. When I was younger my whole existence revolved around sports but, throughout my years at WIC and all the opportunities that the Drama department has given me I’ve been able to find a new passion. I found myself in the theatre space every day after school and that’s what I will ultimately be studying in university. There’s nothing quite like live theatre.  The times I’ve been able to perform are the moments from high school and my teenage years that I know I will never forget. Theatre has taught me more about life than anything else I’ve studied; it made an impact on me as person far deeper than I could ever imagine.”

“Band has opened my eyes to the world on a level that helps me with patience, resilience, and the power of a team.”

We Invest in WIC

“The opportunities our son has received at West Island College have been transformational with the results clearly demonstrated both academically and socially. WIC has also provided amazing leadership opportunities for our son that have resulted in a level of confidence that will serve him the rest of his life. At WIC, there is an understanding of respect, achievement and striving to be your best; it permeates the entire WIC community including all staff, teachers and students. This environment brings out the best in everyone and is one of the many reasons why we support WIC. We Invest In WIC. We consider WIC an extension of our values and commitment to developing our son’s future and as such, we have embraced the responsibility of  contributing to the school’s Annual Fund. By giving back to the WIC community, we are investing in the future of our community. It takes a village to raise a child, and WIC is an integral part of this village. By supporting WIC’s Annual Fund, we hope other students will benefit from a WIC education where they are able to thrive in every aspect of their lives.”

Giving Back

“WIC has been a part of our family for 30 years. The journey at the College began in 1988, and continued as my daughters entered the halls as students at WIC. The opportunities offered to our daughters, from academics and athletics to leadership development, international travel and extra-curricular activities, were tremendous. The WIC experience certainly prepared Courtney (Class of 2011) and Christie (Class of 2014) for their futures. WIC has given so much to our family. Now, in my role with Alumni Relations, I realize how important it is for parents, present and past, and alumni to invest in the future of WIC. My wife Dawna and I decided to give back to the WIC community through the Annual Fund Campaign. Our gift is designated to the Take A Seat Campaign. We have sponsored two theatre seats in WIC’s Performance Centre and proudly have our daughters’ names and graduation years inscribed. I hope our donation will encourage other staff, faculty, parents and alumni to participate in the Annual Fund Campaign.”
