How to Support WIC

2018/19 Annual Fund Campaign

The 2018/19 Annual Fund Campaign offers an unparalleled opportunity for parents, alumni and friends to accelerate West Island College (WIC) in pursuit of its goals and to propel students to new heights of learning and achievement.

The tuition paid by our families covers the cost of day-to-day operations of the school.  Any funds needed for significant building improvements, large capital projects and leading-edge programming outside of standard curriculum have to be raised independently.

Fundraising provides the College with the resources to enrich and infuse our program with opportunities that allow us to innovate and create. Over 600 students and teachers benefit each year from the Annual Fund.

Every gift, regardless of size, is greatly appreciated and all donations receive a charitable tax receipt.

Donors to WIC’s Annual Fund will be recognized in the following categories unless you choose to remain anonymous:

  • Believers $250-$499
  • Builders $500-$999
  • Champions $1,000-$4,999
  • Innovators $5,000-$9,999
  • Changemakers $10,000-$24,999
  • Leaders $25,000-$49,999
  • Visionaries $50,000+

How You Can Make a Gift

There are many ways you can donate:

  • Credit Card – One-Time or Multi-Payment Gift
  • Cheque – One-Time or Multi-Payment Gift. Please make cheque(s) payable to West Island College Society of Alberta
  • Preauthorized Debit – One-Time or Multi-Payment Gift
  • Matching Gifts – Many corporations will match a tax-deductible gift made by their employees. Visit your company website or consult with your Human Resources representative to see if your company will match your donation to WIC
  • Gifts of Securities – Donating publicly traded stocks and securities provide a tax receipt for the appreciated value of the donation, and you are free from capital gains tax
  • Planned Gift – Making a gift through your will, such as a bequest or life insurance, allows you to leave a legacy for future generations of students

2018/19 Annual Fund Campaign Chair

We first fell in love with WIC when my wife Dianna and I were invited to a parent event 5 years ago featuring Craig Kielburger and his Me to We foundation. We loved how a school with such a great academic reputation was focusing on giving back to the community. These are the kind of values we have and want our kids to carry on. Our son Carson is now moving into Grade 10 and daughter Clea is moving into Grade 8. I have volunteered my time in the Business Institute teaching financial literacy for the past 5 years and last year joined the WIC Advancement Committee with the goal to invest further in the future of WIC’s programming which will benefit our students, staff, and the future of education in Alberta. This year as Chair of the Annual Fund Campaign, I am looking forward to working with fellow parents, partners, and alumni in supporting WIC’s endeavours both academically and in the community through philanthropy. Last year we donated our parent bond to the Annual Fund campaign and felt good about playing a part in reaching our Annual Campaign Goal. Through this successful campaign, we improved transportation, technology, and resources for the WIC staff to do the amazing things they do for our kids each and every day.

Giving Back

“WIC has been a part of our family for 30 years. The journey at the College began in 1988, and continued as my daughters entered the halls as students at WIC. The opportunities offered to our daughters, from academics and athletics to leadership development, international travel and extra-curricular activities, were tremendous. The WIC experience certainly prepared Courtney (Class of 2011) and Christie (Class of 2014) for their futures. WIC has given so much to our family. Now, in my role with Alumni Relations, I realize how important it is for parents, present and past, and alumni to invest in the future of WIC. My wife Dawna and I decided to give back to the WIC community through the Annual Fund Campaign. Our gift is designated to the Take A Seat Campaign. We have sponsored two theatre seats in WIC’s Performance Centre and proudly have our daughters’ names and graduation years inscribed. I hope our donation will encourage other staff, faculty, parents and alumni to participate in the Annual Fund Campaign.”

Take A Seat Campaign

Take a seat (or seats) and leave your legacy today. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, alumni and friends of WIC can find a creative way to dedicate their seat.

Support the Take A Seat Campaign as an individual, couple, or family, to honour your son or daughter, including their grad year, as a collective group such as your graduating class, in memory of a loved one, with the name of your business or organization, marking a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion, or with your favorite quotation.

Naming opportunities are available at $2,500 per seat and you may pledge your payment over time – up to 5 years.

Your generosity will be recognized on a plaque affixed to a theatre seat, we will proudly list you on the WIC website recognizing all Take A Seat Campaign donors, and you will receive an official donation receipt for your gift.
